When is the Best Time to Visit Marrakech?

Marrakech enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year, making it a year-round destination. However, each season offers a different experience. This guide will help you determine the best time to visit based on weather, crowds, and special events.

Spring (March to May)

Weather: Spring is widely considered the ideal time to visit Marrakech. Temperatures range from 18°C to 28°C (64°F to 82°F), with warm, sunny days and cool evenings. The landscape is at its most beautiful, with flowers blooming throughout the city and in the surrounding countryside.

Crowds: Moderate, with a gradual increase as summer approaches.

Highlights:

  • The Rose Festival in nearby El Kelaa M'Gouna (May)
  • Perfect weather for exploring the medina and gardens
  • Ideal conditions for day trips to the Atlas Mountains
  • Lush, green landscapes following the winter rains

  • Our Recommendation: April is particularly magical, offering perfect temperatures and beautiful scenery without the peak season crowds.

    Summer (June to August)

Weather: Summers in Marrakech are hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 38°C (100°F) during July and August. The heat is dry rather than humid, which makes it more bearable, but midday activities can be challenging.

Crowds: Lower than spring and fall, with many travelers avoiding the intense heat. However, you'll still find European visitors during their summer holidays.

    Highlights:

  • Reduced rates at many villas and hotels
  • Warm evenings perfect for rooftop dining
  • Refreshing villa pools become the center of daily life
  • The Marrakech Popular Arts Festival (July, when scheduled)

  • Our Recommendation: If you visit during summer, structure your day to avoid the midday heat. Explore early in the morning, relax by the pool during the afternoon, and enjoy the vibrant evening atmosphere when temperatures drop.

    Fall (September to November)

Weather: Like spring, fall offers ideal temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). The scorching heat of summer gradually gives way to pleasant days and cooler evenings.

Crowds: Moderate to high, especially in October which is part of the peak season.

    Highlights:

  • The Marrakech International Film Festival (November/December)
  • Perfect weather for desert excursions
  • Harvest season bringing fresh dates and other produce
  • Comfortable temperatures for exploring the medina and monuments

  • Our Recommendation: October offers an excellent balance of comfortable weather and vibrant atmosphere, though it's also one of the most popular months to visit.

    Winter (December to February)

Weather: Winters are mild compared to European standards, with daytime temperatures between 14°C and 20°C (57°F to 68°F). Nights can be cold, dropping to around 5°C (41°F). Occasional rainfall occurs, but extended periods of rain are rare.

Crowds: Variable, with peaks around Christmas and New Year, followed by quieter periods.

    Highlights:

  • Snow-capped Atlas Mountains creating spectacular views
  • Cozy evenings by the fireplace in your villa
  • Christmas and New Year celebrations at restaurants and hotels
  • Lower rates during January and February (except Valentine's Day)
  • The Marrakech Marathon (January)

  • Our Recommendation: December offers a unique experience with festive decorations and the contrast of palm trees against snow-capped mountains in the distance. January and February are good for budget-conscious travelers seeking fewer crowds.
